Edmeston Summary

Edmeston is a small town located in Otsego County, New York, United States. The town is situated in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, and is bordered by the towns of Burlington, Pittsfield, and Westford. The population of Edmeston was 1,717 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Edmeston was first settled in 1790 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The town was originally known as "New Connecticut," and was later renamed Edmeston after the first settler, John Edmeston. The town was officially established in 1807.
In the early 19th century, Edmeston was a thriving agricultural community, with a variety of crops being grown in the area. The town was also home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill.
In the late 19th century, Edmeston began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away in search of better economic opportunities. This trend continued into the 20th century, and by the 1950s the population of Edmeston had dropped to just over 1,000.

Geography

Edmeston is located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, and is bordered by the towns of Burlington, Pittsfield, and Westford. The town is situated on the banks of the Unadilla River, and is home to several small lakes, including Edmeston Lake, Lake Pleasant, and Lake Otseningo.
