Allegany is a town located in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 4,945 at the 2010 census. The town is in the southwest corner of the county and is south of the city of Olean.

History

The area that is now Allegany was first settled in 1808 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The town was formed in 1820 from the town of Olean. The town was named after the Allegany River, which runs through the town.
