Accord Summary

Accord, New York is a small hamlet located in Ulster County, New York. It is situated in the Catskill Mountains, approximately two hours north of New York City. Accord is a rural community with a population of approximately 1,000 people.

History

Accord was first settled in the late 1700s by Dutch and German immigrants. The hamlet was originally known as “Accord Station” due to its location on the Ulster and Delaware Railroad. The railroad was built in the late 1800s and connected Accord to the larger cities of Kingston and Delhi.
In the early 1900s, Accord was a thriving community with a variety of businesses, including a hotel, a general store, a post office, and a blacksmith shop. The hamlet was also home to a number of farms, which provided the community with fresh produce and dairy products.
In the mid-1900s, Accord began to decline as the railroad was abandoned and the local businesses closed. The hamlet was further impacted by the construction of the nearby Ashokan Reservoir, which flooded much of the surrounding area.

Geography

Accord is located in the Catskill Mountains of Ulster County, New York. The hamlet is situated in the Rondout Valley, which is surrounded by the Shawangunk Ridge to the north and the Catskill Mountains to the south.
The hamlet is located approximately two hours north of New York City and is accessible via the New York State Thruway. The nearest major cities are Kingston and Poughkeepsie, which are both located approximately 30 miles away.
