Salineville Summary

Salineville is a village located in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 25 miles northwest of East Liverpool. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Salineville was first settled in 1802 by a group of Quakers from North Carolina. The village was originally known as Salina, and was later renamed Salineville. The name was derived from the salt springs that were located in the area. The village was incorporated in 1837.
In the late 19th century, Salineville was a major center for the production of salt. The salt was produced by boiling brine from the local salt springs. The salt was then shipped to other parts of the country via the Ohio River.
