Ottawa Hills Summary

Ottawa Hills is a village located in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Toledo and is part of the Toledo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,517 at the 2010 census.

History

Ottawa Hills was founded in 1930 by a group of Toledo businessmen who wanted to create a residential community with a rural atmosphere. The village was named after the Ottawa Indians, who had lived in the area before the arrival of European settlers. The village was incorporated in 1931 and was the first village in Lucas County to be incorporated.

Geography

Ottawa Hills is located at 41°39'25" North, 83°35'17" West (41.656944, -83.588333). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Ottawa Hills is largely based on the service industry. The village is home to several restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The village is also home to several small businesses, including a bakery, a florist, and a pet store.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 4,517 people, 1,845 households, and 1,323 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,637.9 people per square mile (1,017.2/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 1,139.7 per square mile (439.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 94.2% White, 1.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.9% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.2% were married couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 25.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, 32.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $90,917, and the median income for a family was $106,917. Males had a median income of $76,250 versus $50,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $50,917. About 1.7% of families and 2.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
