History
Fairlawn was first settled in 1814 by a group of settlers from Connecticut. The town was originally known as "Fairlawn" because of the beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The town was officially incorporated in 1921.
In the early 1900s, Fairlawn was a rural farming community. The town began to grow in the 1950s and 1960s as Akron and other nearby cities began to expand. The city was officially incorporated in 1971.
Geography
Fairlawn is located in Summit County, Ohio. It is situated on the western edge of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is bordered by the cities of Akron, Copley, and Bath. The city is located at an elevation of 1,068 feet above sea level.
The city has a total area of 4.2 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located in the Cuyahoga River Valley and is surrounded by rolling hills. The city is located near the intersection of Interstate 77 and Interstate 76.
Economy
Fairlawn is a primarily residential community. The city is home to several large employers, including the Fairlawn-based corporate headquarters of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. Other major employers in the city include the Akron General Medical Center, the University of Akron, and the Akron Children's Hospital.
The city also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The city is also home to several shopping centers, including the Fairlawn Town Center and the Summit Mall.
