Cygnet, Ohio is a small village located in Wood County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Portage River, approximately 20 miles south of Toledo. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and is part of the Bowling Green Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Cygnet was first settled in 1835 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was originally known as “Portage” and was later renamed “Cygnet” in 1845. The name “Cygnet” is derived from the Greek word for “swan” and was chosen to reflect the abundance of swans in the area.
The village was incorporated in 1867 and was home to a variety of businesses, including a sawmill, a grist mill, a blacksmith shop, and a general store. The village also had a post office, a school, and a church.

Geography

Cygnet is located in Wood County, Ohio, approximately 20 miles south of Toledo. The village is situated on the banks of the Portage River and is surrounded by farmland. The village is located in the Great Black Swamp region of Ohio and is part of the Toledo Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The village has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land. The village is located at an elevation of 690 feet above sea level.
