Westerville, Ohio is a city located in Franklin and Delaware counties in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is a suburb of Columbus, the state capital and largest city. The population was 36,120 at the 2010 census.
History
Westerville was founded in 1858 by a group of settlers from Westerville, New York. The settlers named the town after their former hometown. The town was incorporated in 1858 and became a city in 1908.
Westerville was a major center of the temperance movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was home to the Anti-Saloon League, which was founded in 1893 and was the most powerful organization in the country advocating for prohibition. The League's headquarters were located in Westerville until the organization disbanded in 1950.

Westerville is located at 40°7′25″N 82°54′45″W (40.123611, -82.9125). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.45 square miles (42.60 km2), of which 16.37 square miles (42.39 km2) is land and 0.08 square miles (0.21 km2) is water.
Economy
Westerville is home to several large employers, including Otterbein University, the Westerville City School District, and the Westerville Public Library. The city is also home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.
