Warrensville Heights Summary

Warrensville Heights is a city located in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Cleveland and is part of the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Area. The population was 13,542 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Warrensville Heights was first settled in 1820 by John and Mary Warren, who built a log cabin near the intersection of what is now Warrensville Center Road and Northfield Road. The area was known as Warrensville until the early 1900s, when the village was incorporated as Warrensville Heights.
The village was originally a farming community, but in the early 20th century, it began to develop into a residential suburb of Cleveland. The population grew rapidly after World War II, and the village was incorporated as a city in 1960.

Geography

Warrensville Heights is located at 41°26′17″N 81°31′45″W (41.438, -81.529). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Warrensville Heights is largely based on retail and services. The city is home to several shopping centers, including the Warrensville Heights Town Center, which is anchored by a Walmart Supercenter. The city is also home to several restaurants, including the popular local chain, Swenson's Drive-In.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 13,542 people, 5,717 households, and 3,541 families residing in the city. The population density was 3,231.2 people per square mile (1,250.2/km2). There were 6,521 housing units at an average density of 1,541.2 per square mile (595.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 44.2% White, 44.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 4.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 4.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.2% of the population.
There were 5,717 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 33.2% were married couples living together, 22.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $33,917, and the median income for a family was $41,917. Males had a median income of $31,917 versus $25,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,917.
