Urbancrest Summary

Urbancrest is a village located in Franklin County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Columbus, the state capital and largest city. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Urbancrest was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was originally known as "Uniontown" and was located in the township of Pleasant. In 1834, the village was renamed Urbancrest after the nearby hilltop. The village was incorporated in 1851.

Geography

Urbancrest is located at 39°55'45"N 83°2'45"W (39.929167, -83.045278). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Urbancrest is largely based on the service industry. The village is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer and a metal fabrication company.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,011.3/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,148.6 per square mile (444.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 79.2% White, 15.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 3.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% were married couples living together, 15.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
