St Johns Summary

St. Johns is a village located in Auglaize County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wapakoneta, Ohio Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

St. Johns was founded in 1837 by John St. John, a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was originally known as St. Johnstown, but the name was changed to St. Johns in 1845. The village was incorporated in 1867.

Economy

The economy of St. Johns is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The village is home to several manufacturing companies, including a plastics plant, a metal fabrication plant, and a food processing plant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 790 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,364.2 people per square mile (912.3/km2). There were 1,164 housing units at an average density of 962.2 per square mile (371.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.90% White, 0.39% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.53% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 36.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 24.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females, there were 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $48,958. Males had a median income of $35,938 versus $22,917 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,945.
