Rawson Summary

Rawson is a village located in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Findlay, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Rawson was founded in 1837 by John Rawson, a settler from New York. The village was originally known as Rawsonville, but the name was changed to Rawson in 1854. The village was incorporated in 1867.

Geography

Rawson is located at 40°59'45" North, 83°37'45" West (40.995833, -83.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km2), all land.

Economy

The economy of Rawson is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses. The village also has a post office and a bank.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 212 households, and 152 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,845.2 people per square mile (717.2/km2). There were 224 housing units at an average density of 762.2 per square mile (295.2/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.18% White, 0.37% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.73% of the population.
