History
Newburgh Heights was founded in 1815 by a group of settlers from Newburgh, New York. The village was originally known as Newburgh Township, but was later changed to Newburgh Heights. The village was incorporated in 1921.
The village was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it began to develop into a residential area. The village was home to many factories and businesses, including a steel mill, a brickyard, and a coal mine.
Geography
Newburgh Heights is located at 41°26′N 81°37′W (41.4333, -81.6167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all land.

Newburgh Heights is a primarily residential community, with no major industries or businesses. The village is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, convenience stores, and a few small retail stores.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 2,845 people, 1,093 households, and 745 families residing in the village. The population density was 4,072.3 people per square mile (1,569.2/km2). There were 1,183 housing units at an average density of 1,683.3 per square mile (649.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 79.2% White, 14.2% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 3.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.2% of the population.
There were 1,093 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 16.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 28.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $27,500 for females.
