Mifflin Summary
Mifflin is a small village located in Richland County, Ohio. It is situated in the southwestern part of the state, approximately 20 miles from Mansfield and 40 miles from Columbus. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people and covers an area of 0.6 square miles.
History
Mifflin was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after Thomas Mifflin, the first governor of Pennsylvania. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The village quickly grew and by 1820, it had a population of over 200 people.
In the mid-1800s, Mifflin was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The village also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a post office.
In the late 1800s, the village began to decline due to the decline of the agricultural industry. The population decreased and many of the businesses closed. In the early 1900s, the village began to experience a resurgence due to the development of the railroad. The railroad allowed for the transportation of goods and people to and from the village.
