Kenwood Summary

Kenwood is a small city located in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Cincinnati, located just north of the city. The population was 8,945 at the 2010 census.

History

Kenwood was founded in 1817 by William Kenwood, a Revolutionary War veteran. The area was originally known as Kenwood Crossroads, and was a small farming community. In the late 19th century, the area began to grow as a result of the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad. The railroad brought new businesses and people to the area, and the population began to grow.
In the early 20th century, the area was annexed by the city of Cincinnati. The area was then developed into a residential suburb, and the population continued to grow. In the 1950s, the area was incorporated as the city of Kenwood.

Geography

Kenwood is located at 39°14'25" North, 84°27'45" West (39.240278, -84.4625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.8 km2), all land.

Economy

Kenwood is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and professional services. The city is also home to several corporate headquarters, including Procter & Gamble, Fifth Third Bank, and the Kroger Company.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 8,945 people, 3,845 households, and 2,541 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,133.3 people per square mile (822.3/km2). There were 4,093 housing units at an average density of 976.2 per square mile (377.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 87.2% White, 6.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 3.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.7% from other races, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.3% of the population.
There were 3,845 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $68,945, and the median income for a family was $86,945. Males had a median income of $60,945 versus $41,945 for females. The per capita income for the city was $37,945. About 2.7% of families and 4.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.2% of those under age 18 and 4.2% of those age 65 or over.
