Huber Heights is a city located in Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Dayton and is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 38,101 at the 2010 census.

History

Huber Heights was founded in 1981 when the Charles Huber family donated land to the city of Dayton for the purpose of creating a new city. The city was named after the Huber family, who had been living in the area since the early 1800s. The city was incorporated in 1981 and has since grown to become one of the largest cities in Montgomery County.

Geography

Huber Heights is located at 39°50′N 84°7′W (39.829, -84.118). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.2 square miles (41.9 km2), of which 16.1 square miles (41.7 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) is water.

Economy

Huber Heights is home to a variety of businesses, including retail stores, restaurants, and manufacturing companies. The city is also home to the Dayton International Airport, which serves the Dayton metropolitan area. The city is also home to the Dayton Dragons, a minor league baseball team.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 38,101 people, 15,845 households, and 10,845 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,364.2 people per square mile (912.2/km2). There were 17,093 housing units at an average density of 1,062.2 per square mile (409.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.2% White, 13.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.7% of the population.
There were 15,845 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $45,945, and the median income for a family was $54,945. Males had a median income of $41,945 versus $30,945 for females.
