Glenmoor Summary

Glenmoor is a small village located in northeastern Ohio, in the county of Columbiana. It is situated in the Mahoning Valley, approximately 25 miles northwest of Youngstown. The village has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is part of the Salem, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Glenmoor was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was originally known as “Glenmoor Station”, and was named after the nearby Glenmoor Creek. The village was incorporated in 1867, and the first post office was established in 1868.
The village was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were wheat, corn, and oats. In the late 19th century, the village began to develop into a manufacturing center, with several factories being built in the area. The most notable of these was the Glenmoor Iron Works, which was established in 1891. The Iron Works was the largest employer in the village, and employed over 500 people at its peak.

Geography

Glenmoor is located in northeastern Ohio, in the county of Columbiana. It is situated in the Mahoning Valley, approximately 25 miles northwest of Youngstown. The village is located on the banks of the Mahoning River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.
The village has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land. The elevation of the village is 890 feet above sea level.

Economy
