Cridersville is a village located in Auglaize County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wapakoneta, Ohio Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Cridersville was founded in 1837 by John Crider, a German immigrant. The village was originally known as Crider's Station, and was located on the Miami and Erie Canal. The village was incorporated in 1876.

Geography

Cridersville is located at 40°37'45" North, 84°14'45" West (40.629167, -84.245833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.

Economy

Cridersville is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a bank, a restaurant, and a gas station. The village is also home to a number of manufacturing companies, including a plastics manufacturer, a metal fabricator, and a machine shop.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,093 people, 441 households, and 305 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,817.2 people per square mile (701.2/km2). There were 463 housing units at an average density of 772.2 per square mile (297.7/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.90% White, 0.09% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.09% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the village, the population was spread out, with 26.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
