Chesterville Summary

History

Chesterville, Ohio is a small village located in Morrow County, Ohio. It is situated on the banks of the Whetstone River, and is part of the larger city of Mount Gilead. The village was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania, and was originally known as “Chesterville”. The name was changed to “Chesterville” in 1820, and the village was incorporated in 1837.

The village was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were wheat, corn, and oats. The village also had a sawmill, a gristmill, and a blacksmith shop. In the late 1800s, the village began to grow and prosper, and several businesses were established, including a general store, a hotel, a bank, and a post office.

The village was also home to several churches, including the Chesterville United Methodist Church, which was founded in 1845. The village also had a school, which was established in 1848.

In the early 1900s, the village began to decline, and many of the businesses and churches closed. The village was also affected by the Great Depression, and many of the residents moved away in search of work.

The village began to revive in the 1950s, and several new businesses were established, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a gas station. The village also had a library, which was established in 1954.
