Brewster Summary

Brewster, Ohio is a small village located in Stark County, Ohio. It is situated on the Tuscarawas River, approximately 25 miles south of Canton. The village has a population of approximately 1,500 people and is part of the Canton-Massillon Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Brewster was founded in 1815 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after the first settler, John Brewster, who was a Revolutionary War veteran. The village was incorporated in 1837 and was the first village in Stark County to be incorporated.
In the early years, Brewster was a farming community and the main industry was the production of woolen goods. The village also had a sawmill, gristmill, and a tannery.
