Amesville is a small village located in Athens County, Ohio, United States. It is situated along the Hocking River, approximately 8 miles south of Athens. The village has a population of approximately 500 people, and is part of the Athens Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Amesville was founded in 1817 by a group of settlers from Pennsylvania. The village was named after Amos Miller, one of the original settlers. The village was incorporated in 1837, and the first post office was established in 1838.
In the late 19th century, Amesville was a thriving agricultural community. The village was home to several mills, including a grist mill, a saw mill, and a woolen mill. The village also had a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel.

Geography

Amesville is located at 39°20'25" North, 82°10'45" West (39.340278, -82.179167). The village is situated along the Hocking River, approximately 8 miles south of Athens. The village has a total area of 0.3 square miles, all of which is land.

The economy of Amesville is largely based on agriculture. The village is home to several farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay. The village also has a few small businesses, including a gas station, a convenience store, and a restaurant.
