Sturgeon Summary

Sturgeon is a small borough located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the western part of the state, approximately 30 miles north of Pittsburgh. The population of Sturgeon was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Sturgeon was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Butler. The town was named after the sturgeon fish, which was abundant in the nearby Connoquenessing Creek. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon developed into a small industrial center. The first industry in the town was a sawmill, which was built in 1856. This was followed by a grist mill, a tannery, and a brickyard.
