History
Sturgeon was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Butler. The town was named after the sturgeon fish, which was abundant in the nearby Connoquenessing Creek. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon developed into a small industrial center. The first industry in the town was a sawmill, which was built in 1856. This was followed by a grist mill, a tannery, and a brickyard.
In the late 19th century, Sturgeon became a popular summer resort destination. The town was known for its natural beauty and its proximity to Pittsburgh. The town was also home to several resorts, including the Hotel Sturgeon, which was built in 1891.

The racial makeup of the borough was 97.7% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.1% from two or more races. There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.04.
