Newtown, Pennsylvania is a borough located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located approximately 25 miles north of Philadelphia and is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The population of Newtown was 2,248 at the 2010 census.
History
Newtown was founded in 1702 by William Penn and was originally known as "New Towne". The town was laid out in a grid pattern, with the main street running east-west and the cross streets running north-south. The town was named after Newtown, Wales, which was the birthplace of William Penn's mother.
In 1705, Newtown was incorporated as a borough. During the Revolutionary War, Newtown was the site of a major battle between the British and the Continental Army. The battle, known as the Battle of Newtown, was fought on December 5, 1776. The British were victorious and the Continental Army was forced to retreat.
In the 19th century, Newtown became a popular summer resort for wealthy Philadelphians. The town was home to several large estates, including the estate of William Penn's son, Thomas Penn.

Newtown is located at 40°14'N 75°10'W (40.23, -75.17). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

As of the 2010 census, there were 2,248 people, 890 households, and 590 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,867.2 people per square mile (721.7/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.2% White, 1.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 1.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.9% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 890 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% were married couples living together, 10.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
