Armstrong County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2010 census, the population was 68,941. The county seat is Kittanning. The county was created on March 12, 1800, from parts of Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Lycoming Counties and later organized in 1805. It is named in honor of John Armstrong, who represented Pennsylvania in the Continental Congress and served as a major general during the Revolutionary War.

Armstrong County is located in the Allegheny Plateau region of Pennsylvania. There were 30,945 housing units at an average density of 42 per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was 97.7% White, 0.7% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.2% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. 1.3% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 27,717 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.2% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.91.
The median age in the county was 43.3 years. 22.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 7.2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.2% were from 25 to 44; 29.2% were from 45 to 64; and 17.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the county was 48.7% male and 51.3% female.
