Wilson Borough is a borough located in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. It is part of the Lehigh Valley region of the state. The population was 6,902 at the 2010 census.

History

Wilson Borough was founded in 1875 and was named after James Wilson, a prominent local businessman. The borough was originally part of Easton Township, but was incorporated as a separate municipality in 1875.
The borough was home to a number of industries in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including a silk mill, a paper mill, and a brickyard. The borough also had a number of small businesses, including a grocery store, a bakery, and a barber shop.

Geography

Wilson Borough is located at 40°41'17" North, 75°14'45" West (40.6879, -75.2458). It is located in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania.
The borough is bordered by Easton to the north, Palmer Township to the east, West Easton to the south, and Glendon to the west.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Wilson Borough is home to a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The borough also has a number of industrial and manufacturing businesses.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 6,902 people, 2,845 households, and 1,717 families residing in the borough. The population density was 5,743.3 people per square mile (2,219.3/km2). There were 3,039 housing units at an average density of 2,521.7 per square mile (972.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 87.2% White, 5.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.7% from other races, and 2.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.7% of the population.
There were 2,845 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.7% were non-families. 33.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $41,944, and the median income for a family was $50,902. Males had a median income of $36,912 versus $27,917 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $20,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
