History

Westfield Borough was founded in 1836 by a group of settlers from New York. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its abundance of natural resources, including timber and oil. The borough was named after the nearby Westfield Creek, which was named after the nearby town of Westfield, New York.

The first settlers in the area were primarily farmers, but the discovery of oil in the late 19th century led to a boom in the local economy. Oil wells were drilled throughout the area, and the population of Westfield Borough grew rapidly. By the early 20th century, the borough had become a major center for oil production in the region.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.

There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.97.

In the borough, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $30,938, and the median income for a family was $37,500. Males had a median income of $30,000 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $15,945.
