West Sunbury borough Summary

Sunbury Borough is a small borough located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the western part of the county, approximately 25 miles north of Pittsburgh. The borough is bordered by the townships of Donegal, Brady, and Marion. The population of Sunbury Borough was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Sunbury Borough was first settled in 1790 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Donegal. The town was originally known as "Sunbury Crossroads" due to its location at the intersection of two major roads. In 1814, the town was officially incorporated as the Borough of Sunbury.
The town grew rapidly in the 19th century, becoming a center of commerce and industry. The Sunbury and Erie Railroad was built in 1854, connecting the town to the larger cities of Pittsburgh and Erie. The railroad brought an influx of new residents and businesses to the area, and the town continued to grow throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Geography

Sunbury Borough is located at 40°45'N 79°51'W (40.75, -79.85). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Sunbury Borough is a small, rural community with a largely agricultural economy. The town is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
