West Middletown Borough is a small borough located in Washington County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southwestern corner of the state, approximately 25 miles south of Pittsburgh. The borough is bordered by the townships of North Strabane, South Strabane, and Amwell. The population of West Middletown Borough was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

West Middletown Borough was founded in 1832 by a group of settlers from Middletown, Connecticut. The settlers named the town after their hometown in Connecticut. The town was incorporated in 1836 and was the first borough in Washington County.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, the town began to industrialize. The first industry to come to the town was a glass factory, which opened in 1876. The factory was followed by a brickyard, a coal mine, and a sawmill.
The town also had a thriving business district, which included a hotel, a bank, a post office, and several stores. The town also had a trolley line, which connected it to nearby towns.

Geography

West Middletown Borough is located at 40°14'45" North, 80°14'45" West (40.245833, -80.245833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of it land.
The borough is located in the Appalachian Plateau region of Pennsylvania. The terrain is mostly hilly, with some flat areas. The borough is located in the Monongahela River Valley, and the Monongahela River forms the western border of the borough.

The economy of West Middletown Borough is largely based on manufacturing and services. The largest employers in the borough are the glass factory, the brickyard, and the coal mine. The town also has several small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.1% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.03.
