Valley View Cdp is a census-designated place (CDP) located in York County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the county, and is bordered by the Susquehanna River to the east, the borough of Wrightsville to the south, and the borough of Columbia to the west. The population of Valley View Cdp was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Valley View Cdp was first settled in the late 1700s by German immigrants. The area was originally known as “Kleine”, which is German for “little”. The name was changed to Valley View in the early 1800s, when the area was surveyed and the view of the Susquehanna River Valley was noted.
The area was primarily agricultural until the mid-1900s, when the population began to grow and the area began to develop. The first post office was established in 1876, and the first school was built in 1877. The first church was built in 1883, and the first bank was established in 1884.
The area continued to grow and develop throughout the 20th century. In the 1950s, the area was annexed by the borough of Wrightsville, and in the 1960s, the area was annexed by the borough of Columbia.

Geography

Valley View Cdp is located at 40°2'17" North, 76°30'45" West (40.038, -76.512). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
The CDP is located in the southeastern corner of York County, and is bordered by the Susquehanna River to the east, the borough of Wrightsville to the south, and the borough of Columbia to the west.

Economy

The economy of Valley View Cdp is primarily based on agriculture and manufacturing. The area is home to several farms, as well as several small businesses. The area is also home to several light industrial and manufacturing businesses.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,539.2 people per square mile (593.3/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 672.5 per square mile (259.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.4% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $48,750. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $19,945. About 5.2% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
