History

Trevorton was founded in 1845 by John Trevorton, a local landowner. The town was originally known as Trevortonville, but the name was changed to Trevorton in 1851. The town was incorporated in 1867.
Trevorton was a major coal mining center in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was home to several coal mines, including the Trevorton Coal Company, which operated from 1872 to 1923. The town also had a number of other industries, including a brickyard, a tannery, and a sawmill.
