Spartansburg borough Summary

Spartansburg Borough is a borough located in Crawford County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the northwestern corner of the state, approximately 30 miles south of Erie. The population of Spartansburg Borough was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Spartansburg Borough was founded in 1820 by a group of settlers from Sparta, New Jersey. The settlers named the town after their hometown in New Jersey. The town was incorporated in 1845.
The town was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it became a center for the lumber industry. The lumber industry was a major employer in the area until the early 20th century, when the industry began to decline.
In the early 20th century, Spartansburg Borough began to develop into a small industrial center. The town was home to several factories, including a paper mill, a furniture factory, and a canning factory.
