Seward borough Summary

Seward Borough is a borough located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. Seward Borough is located in the southwestern corner of Westmoreland County, approximately 25 miles southeast of Pittsburgh.

History

Seward Borough was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Seward, New York. The settlers named the borough after their hometown in New York. The first settlers were mostly farmers and the area was known for its fertile soil. The first post office was established in 1848 and the first school was built in 1851.
In the late 19th century, the borough began to grow and develop. The first bank was established in 1891 and the first newspaper was published in 1895. The borough was incorporated in 1901 and the first mayor was elected in 1902.
In the early 20th century, the borough continued to grow and develop. The first fire department was established in 1910 and the first library was opened in 1912. The first sewer system was installed in 1915 and the first water system was installed in 1920.
