Sandy, Pennsylvania is a small borough located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. It is situated along the Ohio River, approximately 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The population of Sandy was 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

Sandy was founded in 1832 by a group of settlers from New Jersey. The town was originally known as Sandy Creek, named after the creek that runs through the area. The town was incorporated in 1867 and changed its name to Sandy.
The town was an important stop on the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad, which ran through the area in the late 19th century. The railroad brought economic growth to the area, and Sandy became a popular destination for tourists.

Geography

Sandy is located at 40°37'N 80°20'W (40.6167, -80.3333). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
The borough is located along the Ohio River, and is bordered by the boroughs of Rochester and Monaca. The town is located in the Beaver Valley, a region of rolling hills and valleys.

Economy

Sandy’s economy is largely based on tourism and small businesses. The town is home to several small businesses, including restaurants, shops, and a local winery.
The town is also home to the Beaver Valley Mall, which is the largest shopping center in the area. The mall is home to several major retailers, including Macy’s, JCPenney, and Sears.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,637.3 people per square mile (1,017.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,150.7 per square mile (444.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.9% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.4% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.2% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $33,750, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,845.
