History
Salix was founded in 1872 by the Cambria Iron Company. The name Salix is derived from the Latin word for willow, which is a type of tree that grows in the area. The town was originally a company town, with the Cambria Iron Company providing housing and other amenities for its workers.
The town was incorporated in 1891 and was home to a variety of industries, including a brickyard, a sawmill, and a coal mine. The town also had a post office, a school, and a railroad station.

Salix is located at 40°20'45" North, 78°51'45" West (40.3458, -78.8625). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
