Rome borough Summary

Rome Borough is a small borough located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southwestern corner of the county, and is bordered by the townships of Hanover, Raccoon, and Independence. The population of Rome Borough was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Rome Borough is located at 40°33'25" North, 80°20'45" West (40.556944, -80.345833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
Rome Borough is located in the southwestern corner of Beaver County, Pennsylvania. It is bordered by the townships of Hanover, Raccoon, and Independence. The borough is situated along the Ohio River, and is approximately 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

Demographics

As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,011.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,155.7 per square mile (446.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.2% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.2% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the borough the population was spread out, with 22.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $33,958, and the median income for a family was $41,250. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,845. About 8.2% of families and 10.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.

Rome Borough is a small, rural community with a population of just over 1,800 people. The economy of the borough is largely based on agriculture and small businesses.
