History
Polk Borough was founded in 1832 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Hanover. The settlers named the borough after James K. Polk, the 11th President of the United States. The first post office in the borough was established in 1833.
In the late 19th century, the borough was a center of the coal mining industry. The coal mines provided employment for many of the residents of the borough. The coal mines also provided the fuel for the local steel mills, which were a major source of employment in the area.

Polk Borough is located at 40°33'N 80°17'W (40.55, -80.28). It has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is situated in the southwestern corner of Beaver County, and is bordered by the townships of Hanover, Raccoon, and Independence.
The borough is located in the Appalachian Plateau region of Pennsylvania. The terrain is mostly rolling hills, with some flat areas. The borough is located in the Allegheny River watershed.
