Plymptonville Summary

Plymptonville is a small borough located in the state of Pennsylvania, United States. It is situated in the western part of the state, in the county of Allegheny. The borough is located in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area and is part of the Greater Pittsburgh Region. The population of Plymptonville was 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

Plymptonville was founded in 1845 by William Plympton, a local landowner. The borough was named after him. The area was originally part of the township of Ross, which was established in 1788. In 1845, the area was separated from Ross and incorporated as the borough of Plymptonville.
The borough was originally a farming community, but it soon developed into a small industrial center. The first industry in the area was a sawmill, which was built in 1845. This was followed by a grist mill, a tannery, and a woolen mill. The borough also had a number of small businesses, such as a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a post office.

Geography

Plymptonville is located at 40°25'25" North, 79°59'45" West (40.423, -79.996). The borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land. The borough is located in the Allegheny Plateau region of Pennsylvania. The terrain is mostly hilly, with some flat areas. The borough is located in the Allegheny River watershed.
