History

The area that is now Pine Ridge was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s. The area was originally part of the township of Baldwin, and was known as “Pine Ridge” due to the abundance of pine trees in the area. In 1872, the area was incorporated as a borough.

Geography

Pine Ridge is located at 40°20'25" North, 79°59'45" West (40.340278, -79.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles, all of which is land.
The borough is located in the Allegheny Plateau region of Pennsylvania. The terrain is mostly hilly, with some flat areas. The borough is located in the watershed of the Ohio River.

The economy of Pine Ridge is largely based on small businesses and services. The borough is home to a variety of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services. The borough also has a few industrial businesses, including a steel mill and a plastics factory.

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 790 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 3,072.5 people per square mile. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.2% of the population.
There were 790 households, out of which 24.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 13.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 20.3% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $25,000 for females.
