Petrolia borough Summary

History

Petrolia Borough was founded in 1876, when the first settlers arrived in the area. The town was named after the nearby Petrolia Oil Field, which was discovered in 1875. The oil field was the first in the United States to be drilled with a rotary drill, and it was the first to produce oil commercially. The oil field was a major source of employment for the town, and it helped to fuel the local economy.

In the early 1900s, Petrolia Borough was a thriving community. The town had a variety of businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a post office, a general store, and a variety of other shops. The town also had a school, a library, and a number of churches.

Geography

Petrolia Borough is located in the northwest corner of Butler County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, and is approximately 20 miles north of Pittsburgh. The borough is bordered by the towns of Harmony, Prospect, and Slippery Rock. The borough is situated on the banks of the Connoquenessing Creek, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland.
