Oak Hills Summary

Hills, Pennsylvania is a small borough located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, approximately 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The borough was incorporated in 1891 and has a population of approximately 1,500 people.

History

The area that is now Oak Hills was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The area was originally known as “Oak Hill” and was part of the larger township of Plum. In 1891, the area was incorporated as the Borough of Oak Hills.
The borough was primarily a farming community until the early 1900s when the coal industry began to boom in the area. The coal industry brought jobs and economic growth to the area, and the population of Oak Hills began to grow. The borough was also home to several small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a post office.
