Middleport borough Summary

Introduction

Located in the heart of Northampton County, Pennsylvania, the Borough of Middleport is a small, rural community with a population of just over 1,000 people. The borough is situated in the Lehigh Valley region of the state, and is surrounded by the townships of Allen, East Allen, and Moore. The borough is home to a variety of businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a variety of restaurants.

History

Middleport was first settled in the late 1700s by German immigrants. The town was originally known as “Middletown”, but the name was changed to “Middleport” in 1845. The town was officially incorporated as a borough in 1867.
The borough was an important stop on the Lehigh Valley Railroad, which ran through the town from 1855 to 1972. The railroad was a major source of employment for the town, and it also helped to bring in new businesses and visitors.
The borough was also home to a variety of industries, including a brickyard, a sawmill, and a flour mill. These industries provided employment for many of the town’s residents.
