Mechanicsville Borough is a small borough located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southern part of the county, approximately five miles south of Pottsville. History
The area that is now Mechanicsville Borough was first settled in the early 1800s by German immigrants. The first settlers were the families of John and Jacob Schaeffer, who arrived in 1808. The Schaeffers built a sawmill and gristmill on the banks of the Schuylkill River, which became the center of the community. The area was originally known as Schaefferstown, but the name was changed to Mechanicsville in 1845.
