Marklesburg borough Summary

Marklesburg Borough is a small borough located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, approximately 20 miles east of Altoona. The population of Marklesburg Borough was 545 at the 2010 census.

History

Marklesburg Borough was founded in 1845 by John Markle, a German immigrant who had settled in the area in 1837. The town was named after him and was incorporated in 1875. Markle was a successful businessman and entrepreneur who owned a sawmill, a gristmill, and a general store. He also served as the first postmaster of the town.
The town grew slowly but steadily over the years, and by the early 20th century, it had become a thriving community. The town was home to several businesses, including a hotel, a bank, a blacksmith shop, a barber shop, and a variety of other stores.

Geography

Marklesburg Borough is located in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, approximately 20 miles east of Altoona. The borough is bordered by the townships of Brady, Cromwell, and Union. The borough is located at an elevation of 1,845 feet above sea level.
