Marienville Summary

Marienville, Pennsylvania is a small borough located in Forest County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the northwestern part of the state, approximately 90 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The population of Marienville was 1,092 at the 2010 census.

History

Marienville was founded in 1845 by a group of German immigrants led by John Marien. The town was named after him and was originally known as Marien’s Settlement. The town was incorporated as a borough in 1875.
Marienville was a logging town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The town was home to several sawmills and lumber companies, including the Marienville Lumber Company, which was founded in 1875. The lumber industry was the main source of employment for the town’s residents.

Geography

Marienville is located at 41°25'N 79°25'W (41.4167, -79.4167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.
The borough is located in the Allegheny National Forest and is surrounded by the Allegheny Plateau. The Allegheny River is located to the east of the borough.

Economy

Marienville’s economy is largely based on tourism. The borough is home to several tourist attractions, including the Marienville Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The district includes several historic buildings, including the Marienville Hotel, which was built in 1875.
The borough is also home to several outdoor recreation areas, including the Allegheny National Forest, which offers camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking. The Allegheny River is also popular for boating and fishing.
