Lanesboro Borough was founded in 1845 by William Lane, who purchased the land from the Susquehanna Company. The borough was originally known as Lane’s Borough, but the name was changed to Lanesboro in 1851. The borough was incorporated in 1854, and the first mayor was elected in 1855.
