Howard borough Summary

History

Howard Borough is a small borough located in Centre County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the Nittany Valley, a region of the Appalachian Mountains. The borough was founded in 1845 and was named after the Howard family, who were early settlers in the area.
The first settlers in the area were the Susquehannock Indians, who lived in the area until the mid-1700s. The first European settlers arrived in the area in the late 1700s and early 1800s. The first settler in the area was John Howard, who arrived in 1802. He was followed by other settlers, including the families of John and William Howard, who established a sawmill and gristmill in the area.
The borough was officially incorporated in 1845 and was named after the Howard family. The first mayor of the borough was John Howard, who served from 1845 to 1848.
The borough grew slowly over the next few decades, with the population reaching just over 500 by the turn of the century. The borough was home to several businesses, including a tannery, a brickyard, a sawmill, and a gristmill.
