Hopewell borough Summary

HopeWell Borough is a small borough located in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. It is situated in the southeastern corner of the county, and is bordered by Lawrence Township to the north, Hopewell Township to the east, and East Windsor Township to the south and west. The borough is home to a population of approximately 2,000 people, and is part of the Trenton-Ewing Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The area that is now Hopewell Borough was first settled in the late 1700s by a group of Quakers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The area was originally known as “Quaker Hill”, and was part of Hopewell Township. In 1845, the area was incorporated as a borough, and was named after the nearby Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
The borough was an important stop on the Underground Railroad, and was home to several prominent abolitionists, including William Still and Levi Coffin. During the Civil War, the borough was home to a large number of Union soldiers, and was the site of several skirmishes.

Geography

Hopewell Borough is located in southeastern Mercer County, Pennsylvania. It is bordered by Lawrence Township to the north, Hopewell Township to the east, and East Windsor Township to the south and west. The borough is situated on the banks of the Delaware River, and is approximately 10 miles south of Trenton, the state capital.
The borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of which is land. The terrain is mostly flat, with some rolling hills in the northern part of the borough. The climate is humid continental, with hot, humid summers and cold, snowy winters.

Economy

The economy of Hopewell Borough is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The borough is home to several small farms, which produce a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, and hay. The borough is also home to several small businesses, including restaurants, shops, and a winery.
Tourism is an important part of the borough’s economy. The borough is home to several historic sites, including the Hopewell Presbyterian Church, the Hopewell Museum, and the Hopewell Cemetery.
