Hendersonville Summary

Hendersonville is a borough located in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area.

History

Hendersonville was founded in 1832 by William Henderson, a Scottish immigrant. The town was originally known as Henderson's Crossroads, and was later renamed Hendersonville. The town was incorporated in 1867.

Geography

Hendersonville is located at 40°51'45" North, 79°59'45" West (40.8624, -79.9958). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Hendersonville is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants. The town also has a post office and a bank.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the borough. The population density was 3,072.2 people per square mile (1,186.2/km2). There were 790 housing units at an average density of 1,312.2 per square mile (505.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 98.45% White, 0.11% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.16% from other races, and 0.59% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.60% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.7% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the borough the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $32,500 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,945. About 4.2% of families and 6.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 6.2% of those age 65 or over.
