History

Heidelberg Borough was founded in 1845 by German immigrants who had settled in the area. The borough was named after the city of Heidelberg, Germany. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the area was known for its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The first post office was established in 1848, and the first school was built in 1851.
The borough was incorporated in 1872, and the first mayor was elected in 1873. The first fire company was established in 1875, and the first police department was established in 1876.

The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.03.
