Heidelberg Borough is a borough located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is a small, rural community located about 20 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census.
History
Heidelberg Borough was founded in 1845 by German immigrants who had settled in the area. The borough was named after the city of Heidelberg, Germany. The first settlers were mostly farmers, and the area was known for its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The first post office was established in 1848, and the first school was built in 1851.
The borough was incorporated in 1872, and the first mayor was elected in 1873. The first fire company was established in 1875, and the first police department was established in 1876.
The borough has remained largely unchanged since its founding. It is still a small, rural community with a population of just over 1,800 people.

Heidelberg Borough is located at 40°30'25" North, 79°59'45" West (40.506944, -79.995833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Heidelberg Borough is a small, rural community with a limited economy. The primary industries are agriculture and tourism. The borough is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
Demographics
As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,011.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,148.6 per square mile (444.2/km2). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.3% White, 0.7% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.2% were married couples living together, 11.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 29.7% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the borough, the population was spread out, with 23.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $32,500 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,945. About 6.2% of families and 8.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
