Harwick Summary

Harwick, Pennsylvania is a small borough located in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It is situated along the Allegheny River, approximately 15 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The population of Harwick was 1,845 at the 2010 census.

History

Harwick was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Harwick, England. The settlers named the town after their hometown in England. The town was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Harwick was a thriving industrial center. The town was home to several coal mines, brickyards, and other industries. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to Pittsburgh and other nearby towns.

Geography

Harwick is located at 40°33'N 79°59'W (40.55, -79.98). According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Harwick’s economy is largely based on the service industry. The town is home to several restaurants, bars, and other businesses. The town also has a few small manufacturing companies.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,621.4 people per square mile (1,009.2/km2). There were 809 housing units at an average density of 1,148.3 per square mile (443.2/km2).
